This summer, families across the country will load up their minivans and hit the road to visit colleges while en route to vacation destinations. Whether the campus visit is a drive-through or a scheduled appointment, those who are college-bound can track and plan their college visits by creating a personal travelogue while getting to know campuses through mobile technologies. Here are some tools to get started:
My Places in Google Maps
As easy as applying a pushpin to a wall map, My Places lets you to create custom maps to track or plan any journey by simply locating the places you’ve visited (or plan to visit) on your My Places map. You can choose to keep the map private and share the link with friends and family, or make it public for anyone to see. Google also provides an interactive tutorial to walk you through the process.
Mobile campus guides
More colleges are going mobile by offering apps that will help keep you informed about campus tours and events while making it easy to navigate the campus by providing interactive, GPS-centric maps. The University of South Carolina and Virginia Tech offer mobile apps that provide campus tour schedules, interactive maps, as well as information on admission to the university. The University of Tampa offers a mobile version of their web site which conveniently features information on admissions and campus visits located on the home screen.
