London is cited as the birthplace of insulin and has a national historic site to commemorate the house of Dr. Frederick Banting. According to the Diabetes Association of Canada, “in 1920, Dr. Frederick Banting was working as a medical practitioner based in London, Ontario, when he first conceived the idea of extracting insulin from a pancreas to treat diabetes.” (http://www.diabetes.ca/about-us/who/our-heritage/)
