When 17-year-old country singer/songwriter Bonner Black moved into an apartment in the heart of Nashville to pursue her music career, she knew she wanted her space to feel like home. “Everyone needs a home base to come back to,” said Black, and she’s right! As it turns out, the apartment Black calls home is 50% cozy, 50% chic and 100% style savvy. Black said she wanted her new apartment to have the special touches from her childhood country-themed bedroom to create the perfect place for her to write music and play guitar.

Black’s room is filled with fun accessories and unique posters that give her personal space a peaceful yet artistic vibe. “This room is totally me. My two favorite colors are red and green, but I decided to go with red because it’s a relaxing color,” she said. “Red is the color of life and love. I wanted my room to feel very modern with a romantic touch.”

Want to spice up your bed? Shop around for small but stylish accessories to give your space a unique feeling. “Little accessories add so much,” Black said. Look out for glitzy pillows and have fun making your bed the perfect place to fall asleep each night.

Stash your stuff in an organized and attractive way just like Black by displaying your jewelry and special knick-knacks on your coffee table. Get creative and have fun collecting items that mean something special to you. Black loves her flowers, mug and picture frame, so start pulling out those keepsakes and start making them a part of your room. A picture frame featuring fun times with your family and friends is sure to cheer you up every time you see it and make your room feel cozy and cottage-y.

“Don’t make a room look smaller than it is. If it’s a small room, you’re going to want to avoid putting a ton of furniture in it,” Black said. “When you’re in college, you’re normally in a fairly small living space. Leave yourself some room to dance around in your PJs at 2 a.m.” A mirror is also a great way to create the illusion of a larger space.

Remember: You want your room to be a place where you can hang out and forget your school stress. Always have soft and cozy blankets on hand and don’t forget to display your favorite things. In Black’s case, she loves showing off her guitar, which she said instantly takes her back to her childhood growing up in the country side with big-city country music dreams. “This is one place where I can just sit down and relax. I’ll bring my laptop over and do some school work without being interrupted, or I’ll grab my guitar and jam or write a song.”

Add cozy rugs to your space for a look that says, “Welcome home”. Rugs are a great way to give your space a unique and cozy feeling. However, a rug is also the perfect way to pop some unexpected color into your bedroom. When shopping for a rug, “be creative,” said Black, who loves funky rugs that add style to her space.
