Penn State is a university built on tradition.
As every Nittany Lion knows, Penn State’s football program is the center of the school’s tradition and community. And even with more than 40,000 students at its University Park campus, located in the quintessential college town of State College, Pennsylvania, the Penn State community is tight-knit.
But in light of the charges of child sex abuse filed against former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, students say that there are mixed reactions about how the administration has handled the situation and whether legendary head football coach Joe Paterno should leave.
Students also are talking about what the scandal — which quickly garnered national attention, evident by the collection of media trucks and reporters on campus — means for the football team’s final home game of the season Saturday.
