Perhaps the deciding factor here is the passion or determination in the student. If you pursue a “risky” major because it’s something you love to do, or it’s a topic that really fires you up, then there’s a good chance you’ll find a way to apply that passion in the “real world”.

The title of the story should say, “Despite a poor economy, follow your dreams…on your parents’ dime.” Students who choose seemingly impractical majors (Russian lit, Feminist studies, etc.) may not have anywhere to follow their dream since employers seeking those types of majors are few and far between.
