Rhonda,

Just saw your comment. I believe, don't quote me on this, is that you still pay something because there are still "labor" costs for putting the book together. Albeit via people editing the book and making sure the quality is in tact or distribution, etc. So yes, it is a bit frustrating that they are as much as they are. And while costs of e-publishing are a bit less there are still costs for usage of the content space. Basically, paying for the space more so than the book, as you would if you went and bought a tangible book. Helpful?

I too love books. I have lots and lots of them. They are in fact taking over my house. I have also gotten and e-reader and I got it for one reason. I got it for travel. I recently married a man who travels a lot for his job and I now go with him. There is no way to take enough books with me for as long as I am now sometimes gone so the solution was an e-reader. I will never love my Nook Tablet as much as my real books but it does serve its purpose for travel and I can play games on it. I do think that some of the books cost more than they should. Why am I paying 12 or 13 dollars for what is just a file. There are no paper or shipping costs associated with it so why does it costs so much?

Way to go Jon! Very nice article. As I am sitting in my living room on my day off, I'm pondering about what to do. The first thought that came to mind was going to Barnes and Noble and buying a new book. Of course, it is my day off so I am entitled to be lazy and surf the internet before I do anything somewhat productive. I'm glad that I did. I am definitely going to go buy a hard cover book, come home, curl up in blanket and read.

Although, if I had a nice new Kindle Fire I could just download it...but then I would probably end up playing Angry Birds all day.
