For the past few semesters, I’ve used sticker frames to hang up pictures in my dorm room. Although I am obsessed with this look, my roommate and I decided we wanted to switch things up for this semester. We wanted to find a cheap and easy way to hang up more pictures while still keeping our wall neat and organized.
These requirements led us to the local hardware store to buy a large ball of medium-thickness hemp string, clothespins, nails and a hammer. The total bill for all of these products was under $10. Talk about a great price!
When we got back to our dorm, we stretched the hemp yarn across the main wall. Then, we put nails at the end of each wall and tied the yarn around the nails. Voila! Our yarn was hung.
We decided to hang the yarn in a relaxed, drapped fashion. My favorite thing about this project is that you can display as many or as few pictures as you want. My roommate and I agreed on three rows of pictures. However, you could add more rows and push the pictures on it as close or far apart as you want.
I put my personal pictures over my bed; my roommate did the same over her own bed. We put pictures of us and our friends in the middle to give the room a cohesive feel, while our individual sections still feel personal.
If you want to try this look, but can’t put nails into your walls or have no hardware store near by, you can buy a photoline to get the same effect.
